Homeless Ministry

The Homeless Ministry partners with Family Promise of Union County to provide a welcoming safe environment for guest families during several weeks each year. The Family Promise mission is to help homeless and low income families achieve sustainable independence through a community based response It is through our response that we live out the tenant of our parish mission to “Serve those in need”. Volunteers are needed to serve as hosts and provide meals, companionship, and food/supplies for these families.

Next Hosting at St. Andrew's in New Providence: June 3-10, 2018

Due to the Little Flower Going Home project, we have transitioned our homeless ministry by hosting our Family Promise guest families at alternative locations. The next of these will be at nearby Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church in New Providence from Sunday June 3 through Sunday June 10, 2018. Little Flower volunteers may participate on any available evening that week.

This is the first Family Promise hosting at St. Andrew’s so our volunteers will work beside theirs to share our knowledge and experience as hosts for Family Promise guest families.

The location of the Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church is 419 South Street, New Providence, NJ 07974.

The Saint Andrew’s congregation has provided one sign-up link for donating food and supplies, providing meal courses and volunteering to serve the guest families and is open to all volunteers:

Most volunteer positions only require about 2 hours of your time.

The Archdiocesan Safe Environment Policy requires that all adult volunteers directly serving youth and vulnerable adults complete a volunteer application, submit to a background check, agree to abide by the Archdiocesan Policies and Code of Ethics and attend the Protecting God’s Children Workshop. See the Safe Environment section on the parish website for details. Only those volunteers who have complied with these requirements may directly serve our homeless ministry guests. Compliance is not necessary to assist with the laundry, setup or teardown, to drop off a meal item or to donate groceries and supplies.
